One thing we like about travelling around the UK – aside from seeing household as well as buddies – is seeing the different counties.
Each one (there are 48 counties just in England) has a totally different feel as well as history to it. as well as in this regular Edition, we’re going to four of them.
Millions of people go to the UK every year, however so numerous miss the chance to check out outside the funding cities. It’s a pity since there’s so much much more to England than London, as well as much more to Scotland than Edinburgh. Venturing into the different counties provides you a much much better concept of what the UK’s about.
We’re going to Norfolk in England’s east for a walk on the beach, Suffolk for some incredible food, Sussex for a catch up with old buddies as well as Essex for a birthday celebration as well as a equine ride!
We hope you delight in this regular Edition.
Jim & Christina xx
We kick the week off with a area of work… or at least we try. Our buddies Dave as well as Clare have two extremely distracting dogs that are as well adorable to ignore. This is Ruby the Irish Terrier. You’ll be seeing much more of her as well as Flo the Springer Spaniel – her partner in criminal offense – later in this Edition.
After getting all the required work done, we head off into Suffolk to see my mum as well as dad. They online near the bit town of Sudbury. It’s a quite place, full of history (it’s the birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough) as well as likewise a bit of a foodie’s paradise.
Suffolk is in east Anglia, which is the huge bump of shoreline in the southeast of England.
We’ve come to The trick Garden – a restaurant set in a gorgeous old Tudor house. It utilized to be much more of a cafe bar, however things have altered here.
Christina starts things off with a gorgeous bit ceviche dish. I have the tartare, which is tasty too.
Christina’s felafel salad looks as well as tastes lovely, as well as service right here is ideal too. view this area for a full review, however for the time being, take this as a strong suggestion from us. The trick garden – much more like a hidden gem.
This weekend, we’re truly thrilled to be heading down to Sussex on England’s south coastline to satisfy up with some incredible buddies from my university days. I feel so lucky to still have these men as buddies – particularly after such a long time.
We were barely much more than kids when we met. It’s beautiful to see everybody with youngsters of their own now.
Typically, we’ve come to the beaches of Brighton on the one weekend that it’s tipping down with rain. Our wet-weather choice though is quite good. This has to be the most extreme crazy golf program we’ve ever seen. The youngsters like it – practically as much as the huge youngsters do!
This is Globalls, as well as it’s a glow-in-the-dark jungle themed course. There’s always a Jurassic Park themed one you can do, however this one’s got a sphere pit at the end!
The rain eases up briefly just after breakfast today as well as the youngsters stack out onto the beach. They’ve been wanting to have a run around as well as a play in the sand all day! My mate Wez is dying to get included in the sandpit. You can tell, can’t you?
Incredibly, this morning’s rainy weather condition has gone leaving sunshine as well as blue skies behind. It may be since Wez has just driven off to head back to Manchester! It’s a long drive for him, however that serves him best for bringing the rain along!
Only kidding. It’s incredible that he might come all the method down to Brighton. to catch up with me as well as my mates Nick as well as Adam. Such a fantastic weekend.
Back in Essex, Christina is out with our buddy Clare as well as her sibling Heather getting a bit of equine riding in. Heather has a number of gorgeous horses, as well as this is her newest equine acquisition. What a beauty.
But this deal with states it all.
Christina fell off him as she was practising on the vaulting saddle. There’s video footage of the fall. It’s rather funny. particularly the part when – as Christina canters round in a broad circle, she can be heard to announce: “I believe I’m falling!”
Thankfully she didn’t hurt herself as well as can see the funny side. In truth she’s asked me to tell you about the whole episode.
After the equine ride, the women have taken the dogs for a walk on the coastline here. The Essex shoreline is so quite – extremely under-valued.
The dogs are so thrilled to be having a run around as well as a swim. inspect them out:
Ruby the Irish Terrier as well as Clare
Ruby as well as Flo chasing one of Clare’s balls.
Ruby in full flight
Flo is having a quite great time!
In spite of Christina’s double stack (she really fell of twice), everyone’s had a great day. It’s lucky the summer’s still hanging on here. Just.
Tonight, we’ve travelled to the old port as well as fishing harbourtown on the Essex coastline for a birthday dinner for Dave. The Alba Inn is a bit old pub – full of salty seadog appeal – that’s been serving beer to fishermen, shipwrights, sailors as well as harbourmasters because the 1850s.
The primary bar is a royster of a space with wooden floors, low ceilings as well as all the trappings an old ale inn on the shores of one of England’s one-time premier ports. This town was the house port of the Mayflower!
Of program The Alba has altered as much as the town because the great old days, including the dining room. however the aesthetic complies with throughout the pub. In fact, this table is made of one of the old doors of the original building.
The food right here is just as impressive. The seafood platter is generous as well as satisfying. Des, Clare as well as Dave’s brother-in-law, is so thrilled with his order, I only just get a picture before he sets about this crab with gusto!
Meanwhile, Dave’s just as gleeful when his salumi platter turns up. The menu suggests these platters are sufficient for two, however Des as well as Dave understand their capabilities. There’s no worry in their eyes as well as there’s not much left on their plates by the end either!
I’m impressed. extremely impressed.
And here’s the whole crew: Heather, Des, me, birthday Dave, Clare as well as Christina. Cheers!
And there’s cake! Of program there’s cake. however this one’s quite special. Clare is a cheesecake brilliant as well as establishes new recipes each time we’re in town.
For Dave’s birthday, she’s put together this dark, milk as well as white chocolate tower of cheesecake masterpiece! It’s incredible.
We’ve shared one of her creations before – inspect out this beauty: the Tim-Tam-tastic Cheesecake
Tonight, Dave’s in the kitchen area once again as well as he’s chose to put together an Indian feast. My mum as well as father had the fantastic concept of purchasing him a curry set from their preferred flavor store in Sudbury – Raffi’s Spicebox. You can put together any type of mix of curries as well as spices you want here, which is quite cool.
The sun’s out once again in Anglia today, so we’re on a bit road trip with mum as well as Dad. We’ve come to Norfolk, which is still on the east coastline however even more north. It’s really level with Leicester if you understand England.
We’ve come to the bit seaside town of Gorleston-on-Sea, which is… random. however it’s extremely quite right here as well as it’s great to get some sea air. Apparently, it’s the sight that the very first moving photo was filmed in east Anglia in 1896, which is… likewise random. You can see the footage here, however don’t expect anything as well blockbuster.
Of course, it’s not a trip to the seaside without an ice cream!
Clare as well as Dave’s dogs like a great walk in the woods, so we’ve taken them to one that I utilized to find to a great deal when I was a kid. The bit riverside town of Wivenhoe in Essex has a gorgeous old woodland that – if you’re ever in the area – is worth a walk through.
I believe Ruby as well as Flo have delighted in their walk. now it seems it’s time to act a bit cute. It should be time for dinner!
We hope you’ve delighted in our regular edition as well as our journey with 4 different counties of England. It’s definitely been fun for us!
Cheers – Jim & Christina xx
